Can you stay in the rv in a motel parking lot if some of your party rents a motel room?

We are new at RVing and we are taking my parents on a big road trip with us. When we stop at night they will stay in a motel and we will stay in the rv, can we stay in the motel parking lot or do we need to go to a walmart. thank you
